I love Ravelry! How else would I have found this great blanket pattern? As soon as I saw the finished product, I knew I needed to knit this for the boy twin of the school family.
Pattern can be found here.
Yarn: Lion Brand Cotton-Ease (old) in Candy Blue, 3 balls (down to the very last yards!)
Needle: US8

Close up of the sail boat:
I used the old Cotton-Ease yarn in Candy Blue because the twins are due the first part of September (which really means early-to-mid August) and here in Chicago-land it’s still really warm and humid. I also have read so many reviews of this yarn and almost all of them report great wear and washability. Because these twins will be the 5th and 6th kids to the family, I thought machine wash and dry is an absolute MUST! The finished blanket (pre-washing) measures 26″ square. It turned out a bit smaller than I’d have liked, but I just wasn’t in the mood to do math and add stitches anywhere to make it larger. I think it’s a good size for a crib/car seat blanket, anyway.
I’m currently working on the girl twin’s blanket and hope to have the big reveal next week sometime. We’re not doing much of anything over the Memorial Day weekend, so I have high hopes for lots of knitting time.
I have a few ideas for toys to go along with this blanket, but I can’t make the decision, so I’m polling everyone I come across. There are 5 choices. Leave yours in the comments! The toy with the highest number of votes will be the one I knit to accompany this blanket in the gift package.
1) Duck (Ravelry link)
2) Turtle (Ravelry link)
3) Fish
4) Octopus (Ravelry link)
5) Lobster
Thanks for offering your opinions! I’ll let you know what’s decided when I post again.
Oh man, those are all so adorable! If I can only pick one, I’d go with the Octopus, but the lobster would be my second choice. So cute!
I vote for the duck or the octopus. I love the blanket – so sweet and what a wonderful gift. Only 3 skeins of Cotton-ease? Wow…I am now itching to pick up some for a blanket 🙂
A lobster, of course! How many kids do you know who have stuffed lobsters? Unless, of course, there’s a lobster in Sponge-Bob — I’m not up to date on my cartoons….
You are so good about knitting presents! I knit woefully few. The blanket is adorable!
you are a kniting dynamo!
I think the duck or the fish look the cuddliest and therefore may appeal to kids more.
But I would choose the lobster. Absolutely.
This blanket is awesome!!
That blanket is awesome! It’s hard to find cute patterns for boys, but this is great! 😀
I vote for the turtle (maybe cause I’ve done one and LOVED it!). I have b/g twins myself and I made the turtle (sans hat) for the boy. If I did one for her, I would do it with the daisy hat. That way they would be alike, but yet slightly different, just like the twins. 😀
Cute, cute, cute. I vote for the duck. Blue and yellow look fabulous together. Plus you’ll have the whole water connection going on. Good luck with whatever you pick. Wonderful gift!
[…] care much about that kind of detail! This toy will be given to the boy-twin-to-be as a set with the Sailboat blanket I knit a few weeks […]
