I finally finished my first pair of Monkey socks and I LOVE THEM! They fit well, they’re pretty, they knit up pretty darned fast, and I didn’t run out of yarn. What more could I ask for?
Pattern: Monkey as found in Knitty, Winter 2006
Yarn: Shibui Sock in Orchid, two skeins
Needles: US2 (2.75mm)
Started: July 28, 2008
Finished: August 8, 2008
I finished these just in time for our first visit to the zoo in too long to admit. I had grand plans of photographing my socks in the monkey house, but as they say, sometimes the best laid plans…
The best I could muster is presented below:
If you’re interested, click on the photo for the Flickr link where you can aaaaaalmost see the baboon in the distance. The baboons weren’t exactly a happy, cooperative bunch. The best I got was this photo of the baboon off in the distance (truth be told, it’s not even the baboon’s face… it’s the rear end!) but I figured after 5 hours at Brookfield Zoo with 5 kids under age 8, it was good enough for my blog post! FYI, if you’re ever presented with the opportunity to let your kids touch stingrays and nurse sharks, DO IT!! Here’s my oldest after actually touching the stingray:
He was just a little excited!
For your amusement:
I’ve made some good progress on my plain-Jane-car-knitting socks, too. In fact, I’m almost done with sock #2, so I’m hoping for an FO post on that later in the week.
I don’t think I mentioned here that while on vacation, my youngest son decided to ‘help’ me by tossing the tv remote my way while I was sitting on the floor by the couch, playing on the ‘puter. It wasn’t the best idea.
That would be the spidering, broken, bleeding, way-too-expensive to fix screen on my iBook. There is good news, though. The iBook has a lot of photos on it and the hard drive is almost full, my birthday is soon, and my hubby is wonderful, so I’ll be getting my new MacBook delivered next week!
I also decided to order myself an itty-bitty scale for weighing acid dye powder and am all ready to dye some yarn using real dyes!
The most exciting news is that I attended a mom/baby shower on Tuesday where I learned that a fellow second-grade mom is also a fellow knitter and spinner!!! YYIPPPEEEE!! We’re getting together on Tuesday to knit to let the kids play, so I’m thrilled.
Hope you’re all enjoying your weekend and getting ready for back-to-school days!
