I have agreed to knit several things to be grouped into a baby basket which will be offered at our school’s auction later this year. I needed to purchase the yarn for these items, and because we’re looking for the most cost-effective and easy-care items, I headed to HobbLobb. While there with all my kiddos, my oldest spotted the ugliest Red Heart Kids yarn I have ever laid eyes on and immediately began begging. And pleading. And begging some more. He HAD to have this one skein of yarn so I could make him a blanket. Ha! I tried reasoning with him. Not only was it kinda sorta scratchy, but it’s nowhere near enough to make a blanket. Probably not even big enough for a blankie for a toy. It was futile. It became obvious to me that he really just wanted something special made by mommy just for him. I am a little pressed for time because I want to be absolutely sure I finish the knitted items I have promised to the auction, but I also wanted to oblige my son.
Pattern: Diagonal Pattern Baby Blanket (Knit) by Lion Brand (free with registration on their website)
Yarn: Red Heart Kids in Crayon, one single lonely skein
Started: June 20, 2008
Finished: June 22, 2008
I weighed the skein before starting and wound it into two equal balls so I could increase through one half and decrease through the other. I ended up with maybe 3-4 yards leftover. The mini Clown Yack Blanket measures ~19″ square. He’s happy, although he did say that he didn’t expect it to look like it does. He thought it would end up more of a striped rainbow than a muddled puke pile. 🙂 If the interest is still there in a few months, I’ll use some of my old Cotton Ease and make a striped blanket for him.
Hope you had a great weekend!
