Thanks in no small part to Beth, the Knitted Babe toys now have some dresses to wear over their too-big knitted underpanties. She took my challenge to teach me how to sew and I finally had a day I could take a little time to be taught. WOOOHOOOO!!
My first ever sewn doll clothing item:
This is the A-Line Dress from the book How to Knit the Babes by Claire Garland. It’s just a piece of some basic fabric from the local supermega craft/fabric/scrap-o-matic store–nothing special. I just liked the design and it was on sale.
I’ll be the first to admit that Beth did a good part of the sewing, especially considering it’s a small item and didn’t exactly require a lot of stitching. I did do some of the sewing, so I’m calling it mine. 🙂
Because two dolls can’t be left with only one dress to fight over, I had to sew more. There would have been much more, but after sewing not one, not two, but… well, too many to admit… dresses inside-out, I got a little tired of the whole deal and gave up.
I think that 6 little A-Line dresses will be plenty, don’t you?
The little dresses are super cute and really easy to make once you have someone who knows what they’re doing help out. I know mine aren’t technically correct and I made lots of little errors, but I’m hoping the girls who will receive them won’t notice or care too much.
I’ve made some great progress on the girl twin’s blanket, and still have hopes to reveal it this week. I’ll also tell which toy was chosen to go along with the Sail Away blanket when I give up the goods on the girly blanket. Hang in there!
